I live in a house with 2 teen boys! They are polar opposites in lots of ways. I used to think that one wasn’t as much of a slob as the other, but I’ve learned that the less-slobby one just hides his messes better! Anyone else have messy teen boys living in your house?
The biggest layabout, whom we affectionately call Pigpen, of the two makes absolutely ZERO effort to achieve even the most minimal level of tidiness unless specifically instructed. He’s got better things to do than clean up after himself! His hair, though, is a work of art and gets lots of attention. I digress…
A few years ago, I put a lot of time and energy into redoing Pigpen’s room and it turned out fantastic! It’s actually my most pinned pin on Pinterest. Try saying that 5x fast!
To be honest, I guess in my idealistic mind, I thought having a nicely decorated and organized room would motivate him to be more conscious of his mess, but the fancy room didn’t affect his cleaning efforts. It was such a letdown and I almost regretted the energy I spent on his room. It sure looks pretty in a picture, though!
When I was thinking about the mood board for this week, I had him in mind again. I don’t learn lessons the first time, apparently! I did tell ol’ PigPen a few months ago that we would look into getting him a new bed (I really want to try my hand at building one), but it hasn’t happened yet. Other more pressing things like LIFE keep happening.
You know by now that I love navy blue! Because we are Auburn fans (war eagle), I have always leaned heavily toward navy and orange schemes for the boys’ rooms. However, I love the navy and red color scheme that I used on this design board! The two colors together are so classic and flexible when choosing accent pieces and decor.
I also designed this with my budget-conscious friends in mind! Every element on this design board can be purchased from Walmart, minus the rug, and it’s from our other favorite place – Amazon! I’m a firm believer that we can have beautiful homes and we can achieve them without spending insane amounts of money!

Love that you used budget-friendly items in your design! It looks gorgeous. I don’t have messy teenagers but I have VERY messy 1 and 5 year olds – hah!

Thanks for stopping by! I remember the messy 1 and 5-year-old stage very well! The mess just changes. It’s no longer bright colored toys! Now it’s expensive shoes and clean clothes littering the floor!
