Some days we throw dinner in the oven and have 30 minutes of “free time.” I want to give you some things you can do to tidy your house and cook dinner at the same time!
As busy moms we often struggle to get it ALL done! There just aren’t enough hours in the day! 24 clearly isn’t enough!
I’m going to offer you a few task you do can to tidy your house in the time it takes to bake a casserole.
I get it. Not every day dinner just goes in the oven and we have time to piddle, but some days, we do…or maybe we need to work our meal plans so we have a day or two a week to piddle while dinner is cooking!
Tidy Your House While Dinner Is In The Oven
Instead of piddling or scrolling through your IG feed, here are few things you can do!
- Fold a load of laundry
- Start a load of laundry
- Throw out expired food in your pantry
- Throw out expired food in your refrigerator
- Refill spice jars – if you’re a decanter!
- Sweep the floor
- Dust the blinds in your kitchen
- Pay a bill online
- Cut veggies for tomorrow’s lunch or dinner
- Pack your lunch for tomorrow
- Start a grocery list or add things to your list
- Clean the pantry doors
- Restock your coffee pod organizer
- Refill your coffee grounds jar
- Make your bed
- Straighten your bathroom counter
- Clean off your nightstand
- Sign school papers and permission slips
- Organize a drawer or cabinet in the kitchen
- Steam or iron clothes for the next day
- Load the dishwasher
- Declutter the kitchen table or countertops
- Sit and rest!
Tidying Your House Doesn’t Take Long
If you think about it, none of these tasks will take you more and 5 minutes or so.
Unless, you’re dealing with weeks or months worth of clutter, you could actually do many of these tidy home tips in the time it takes to bake a pan of enchiladas or king ranch casserole!
We often use the excuse that we don’t have time to do X, Y or Z, but we are really good at lying to ourselves, aren’t we?
What we really need to do is Carpe Diem – or Carpe the Minutes – Seize the minutes we have during our days that are easily wasted. Well, in my case, usually wasted or always wasted!
I’m not advocating that we ‘hustle’ all the time, but I am advocating for stealing those wasted moments of the day so we prevent our homes from becoming paralyzing, overwhelming cluttered chaos!
