Welcome back to the 13th week of Cottage Keeping! For the 13th Saturday morning in a row, I’ve hit publish on this little post where I share a little about what’s going on in my life and share with you some of the great things that can be found around the web.
The Cottage Keeper’s Thoughts:
I hope you’ll take some time this weekend to remember the lives lost defending our freedom as Americans. May we never forget that the freedoms we enjoy today are afforded us due to the men and women who have given their lives for our country.
Y’all, I’m going to keep it real with you today! I am struggling to keep it all together. As usual, I’ve taken on more than I should – outside of my actual business. Hence why there’s been nothing new on the blog this week. I have always just flown by the seat of my pants and I’ve reached the point in my life where I have too many responsibilities to continue with this mentality.
My 16-year-old left my driveway behind the steering wheel with no other adult in the car this week. Totally terrifying! I thought I had a vivid imagination, but nothing sends my imagination into flight more than knowing my child is out driving a car alone. I can’t be the only one!
I mentioned in my 2021 Home Goals post earlier this year that I have a hard time finishing projects. Currently, I have 2 projects that I need to finish up in the next 30 days or so. One is a feature wall for above my fireplace. Another is a couple of pieces of furniture I’m building for my Game Day Porch Makeover. Remember my first admission in this post? Why do I do these things to myself?
This first week of summer has been riddled with Mom Guilt. Owning a business and seeing clients requires me to leave the kids a good bit. I feel all this guilt for leaving them home to fend for themselves. They’re more than old enough to stay home without me. I think because last year was such a boring summer for them and I don’t want to repeat that. Finding some sort of happy balance is a goal for this week.
Coming up on the blog…Likely later today or early tomorrow morning, I’ll post my Week 4 update to the One Room Challenge. I’ve also become more and more passionate about encouraging others to become more content to live with less stuff. So I have a couple of posts in the chute (in my head currently) on the topic of purging, etc.
Oh and this week over in my Facebook Group we’re going to start a little decluttering challenge. I think we’re going to call it Un-Junked June! Come see what it’s all about!

The first article I ever read about women’s mental load mentioned an extreme example, where an ex husband was still calling his ex wife to find out what to buy his mother for her birthday. I wish I could find it.
