Effortless Patriotic Holiday Decor for Your Home

As a military family, we don’t take our freedom for granted. We also like to keep things simple, so I love the effortless patriotic holiday decor I was able to put together for this week!

Fireworks!

Barbecues!

Gathering with friends!

Mosquitoes!

Heat and Humidity!

Aren’t these accurate thoughts we have when it comes to the 4th of July?

We have some events happening at our house this week that require a touch of patriotic holiday decor!

We have friends who are new to America coming to celebrate the 4th of July and then later in the week, we’re hosting some of now LTC Wade’s coworkers to celebrate his promotion.

Cue the Red, White, and Blue!

If you’ve been in my house or seen pictures of my house, you know I don’t do fussy decor.

I don’t need more things to dust or store when the season or holiday has passed.

Patriotic Holiday Decor – Dining Table

One of the easiest and most frequently changed decorations in my house is what sits on the center of my dining table.

Since my table is so long, I love to anchor my table decorations with a runner or some sort of fabric.

The fabric brings a softness and texture that anchors vases or other more rigid decor pieces.

I found this blue and red striped runner at Hobby Lobby for 50% off a few weeks ago. Wayfair has this one that is similar.

I also picked up these small red milk cans at Hobby Lobby, too. (It was a Hobby Lobby day, apparently!) Amazon has these that are similar.

My hydrangeas are from a clearance bin at Target. I had to dig through all sorts of greenery to find 6 of these that were in good shape! These are close and about the same price I paid for mine.

I just cut them down to the height I wanted and stuck these little American flags in them and off to the next project I went!

I really do love how simple, yet perfectly patriotic this turned out!

Patriotic Holiday Decor – Front Porch

Since this is our first 4th of July in this house, I had to make a few investments to start building a small stash of staple patriotic decor specifically for the nuances of this house.

These pleated buntings were a must! I’m actually going to order another set of them so I can cover more of my back porch railing next year.

Likely, I’ll space them out differently in the front in the future, but it was so hot when I was hanging these that I didn’t want to mess with redoing them after they were up!

I have a love-hate relationship with creating my own wreaths! Maybe it’s more with my glue gun than anything!

After burning my middle finger pretty significantly trying to glue the fabric around this foam wreath form, I just wanted to get it done.

The oars/paddles on my wreath from the dollar spot at Target, but Walmart sells some unfinished oars you could use if you were to try and recreate this project on your own! Spray paint them white and you’d be good to go!

I didn’t do any planning or measuring and so it’s far from perfect, but I love the nautical and still patriotic feel this gives to the front door.

I was going to take pictures of the process, but once I burned my fingers, that plan was thrown in the garbage!

You’d think being a military family we’d have a stash of flags, but nope! Not us!

I picked up these flags to pop into my flower pots at Lowe’s while we were there looking for rocks for my DIY tabletop citronella bowl that I’ll talk about later!

Patriotic Holiday Decor – Back Porch

Again with the bunting…

Let’s be real.

Ain’t nobody really going to be standing in the middle of my backyard admiring this bunting except for the birds and the squirrels!

Does anyone else have Chuck-Will’s-Widows who sing their song all night long right outside your bedroom window?

But I do think I could use a few more buntings back here!

I said before that we’re having a couple of gatherings here and likely we’ll sit outside if it’s not too blazing hot.

For the table decor, I folded a long piece of red and white seersucker fabric for the table runner.

I have used this folded fabric all over my house and for various occasions, from Valentine’s, Christmas, and now the 4th of July!

It also makes a good end-of-bed throw. (Follow me for more cheap girl decor hacks!)

I DIY’d this tabletop citronella lantern. Although, I’m not sure this would fall into a cheap girl hack because it really didn’t end up being that cheap!

For a pop of red, white, and blue, I stuffed some faux lambs ear stems into these painted jars I bought at, you guessed it, Hobby Lobby! Etsy has some really cute painted jars, too.

And if you’re a Hobby Lobby shopper, they have all their spring stuff 66% off! I snagged several wood-cutting boards for a project that I’m going to work on once I get past this week’s events!

Miscellaneous Pops of Patriotic Decor

These wreaths hang on my pantry doors and on this mug rack year-round.

To give them a bit of a Patriotic Pop, I added some red and white Christmas ribbon.

Yep, you heard that right!

I opened my Christmas decor box of ribbon and pulled out a roll and tied simple little knots around these wreaths.

This is definitely a cheap girl tip! When holiday decor goes on clearance, shop for items that can be used for multiple holidays, or even every day!

Red jars, vases, ribbon, fabric, etc. can be used for Valentine’s, all patriotic holidays, summer, spring, Christmas…you get my point!

Same with pretty much any solid color items.

One last little touch of red, white, and blue in the main living area is this banner I made with some leftover fabric from who knows what other project!

A few triangles, twine, and some iron on hem, and voila – a patriotic garland!

And there you have it!

The Wades are as decked out as we’re going to be for this week of patriotic fun.

What kind of patriotic fun are you and your friends and family getting into this week?
