Decorating the back porch was next on my list of projects after getting the master bedroom refresh complete!
Since we purchased this house, I knew I wanted to make the most of our outdoor spaces. As the kids get older, I wanted to provide them with a place to have fun and relax with their friends. I also wanted a place to gather as a family and just “hang,” literally!
I joke, to myself, that our back porches are like having a mullet – business on the top, party on the bottom. It’s true, though!

Covered Back Porch Seating
Regular ol’ chairs and sofas wouldn’t do for this covered back porch! Besides, we have that up top!
For several months, I browsed hanging chairs on Amazon, Home Depot, Walmart…all the websites.
I considered hanging mechanisms, colors, fabric types, colors, etc. Definitely moments of indecision and questioning whether this was even going to work on the porch.
There’s no reason this wouldn’t work. We have wood beams just begging for hanging hammock chairs!
Now my only regret is taking so long to bite the bullet and hit the “buy now” button!
We are getting our money’s worth out of these chairs.
We rock. We spin. We listen to 90’s country music.
We’ll make lots of memories and have lots of great conversations dangling from the ceiling of the back porch!
Low-Cost Back Porch Decor
Lights! Lots of Lights!
The back porch has one little tiny pitiful light by the door.
I envisioned hanging lots of string lights to add light for late nights making memories and a fun glow for added ambiance.
These Better Homes and Garden String lights are perfect! The shatterproof bulbs make hanging a very easy and quick process.
Once we had the chairs hung, we needed a rug, or rugs as this turned out.
Per my usual project issues, I had a tight timeline, making ordering and waiting for delivery a non-option!
I found these 6×9 blue rugs at World Market locally. I initially bought one and decided it wasn’t big enough.
One online order and coupon later and I was on my way to pick up the second!
It looks amazing!
Add some faux plants, real plants, and a couple of spray-painted mismatched metal tables, and voila!
Isn’t it lovely?
Covered Back Porch Entertainment
The real star of this show is this Christmas gift that I didn’t buy until the end of May!
Well, it had been ordered once before, but “damage” and a delivery driver who “attempted” delivery, but really didn’t and this ping pong table was the Christmas gift that Santa didn’t put under the tree.
I had all but forgotten about it until my dad handed me a wad of cash to cover the cost of it.
A quick Amazon search, add to card, and within days we had an indoor/outdoor ping pong table for the back porch.
We are definitely not professionals, but our ping pong games are about as strong as our pickleball games!
You could almost call this the summer of the paddle around here!
Back Porch Pests
Now let’s have some real talk!
You know why momma’s times don’t the back porch are going to be getting shorter and shorter?
Blood-sucking mosquitoes!
We’ve got citronella torches of varying shapes and sizes, this high-speed bug light lantern and fans down here now. Oh and lemongrass plants!
Here’s hoping I don’t have to spend any additional money on mosquito control.
I am going to buy one of these new-fangled, influencer-famous fly fan gadgets, though!
Enjoy the view of my covered back porch while I wait for the money tree to grow out here so I can start on my next project.
