We’re in the home stretch of our One Room Challenge. While this has been super fun and we now have an outdoor space that is mostly put together, I’ve not managed my time so well!
Beginning of summer is such an odd time with adjusting to the kids being home in general and navigating being a business owner and being a mom at the same time! On top of those, I recent joined the Auburn Chamber of Commerce and am a new contributor to the Auburn-Opelika Moms Blog! My first post is due tomorrow and guess what I haven’t done yet? Ugg!
Oh, I also became a Home Advisor “Screened and Approved” Pro last week and that’s been a more time-consuming process than I thought it would.
Back to the Game Day Porch Makeover and the main reason I’m throwing this post together!
Last week we finished our first crib-sized couch/bench. I mentioned last week that it was definitely our plan B with a few extra modifications!
This week, we completed the second bench! I wish I had pictures of the mess I created in my foyer to paint this one so that I didn’t have to stand in the heat to get it done. Pictures are a major struggle for me!
Then as we were moving it to the porch, I stepped in some spilled paint and tracked paint through the house. Thankfully, I noticed the sticky on my shoes before I stepped on the living room carpet!
You may notice a different pillow arrangement on the couches this week. Had a little snafu there, too! I’m not sure what my initial plan for pillows was, but I didn’t consider the difference in the sizes in the teal pillows and the black and white striped pillows! I need 1 more striped pillow to keep the first arrangement, but the pillow is now on backorder/delay from Walmart so I’m making due for now.
Also, a word of advice – if you are going to make any sort of seating for grown-ups using crib mattresses, buy the more expensive one! The first mattress I purchased was the budget mattress. It doesn’t have near the support or firmness that is really necessary. The mattress on the couch we did this week has a more expensive mattress and is much more comfortable and firm.
We sold our old furniture last night so I’m going to take the profits to go buy another of the better mattresses. Anyone need a crappy crib mattress?
Along with adding the second couch, I also brought the chairs and side table that I purchased a few weeks ago. Remember when I asked your opinion on chairs in week 2? I went with the Opalhouse Wingback Patio Accent Chairs. I also bought the coordinating Aster Patio Folding Table.
There was lots of input and opinions from all of my design assistants, aka my kids and husband, on where to place these chairs and this table. Where I originally planned to put them blocked the view of the fireplace and access for marshmallow roasters. Priorities, people!
When the woman came to pick up our old furniture last night, she complimented the porch and told us it looked great! I am pretty proud of how it’s come along.
The last little details in the design are hanging some very budget friendly curtains and possibly some additional wall or mantle decor. We’ll see what we get to by the end of the week.
As usual, we go on vacation next week and this week, on paper, looks like lots of chaos! I’m already planning to pull a late nighter tonight to get a little bit ahead, or caught up depending on how you look at it. Glass half-full, Glass half-empty…
