Spring 2021 One Room Challenge – Week 2

One Room Challenge

Welcome back to week 2 of the One Room Challenge!

Last week I explained my plans to give my “Game Day Porch” a makeover. There hasn’t been much progress so far this week. I warned you that this would be a very real account of a DIY project by a very real person!

Game Day Porch

I’ve spent most of the week trying to decide what kind of chairs I want to purchase to sit near the fireplace. If ever there was a time when I am incredibly indecisive, it’s choosing these chairs.

One of the biggest issues is that I haven’t built my “couch.” And this week, after doing a little better measurements, I think I decided I’m going to build two smaller couches instead of one large one. I think it makes more sense with the flow of the space.

The challenge with my back porch, and I’m not sure I even mentioned this last week, is that it is frequented by my kids and their friends more than anyone else at this point. This means everything I place on the porch must be fairly indestructible. Anyone with children has likely said or thought, “this is why we can’t have nice things!”

The furniture I currently have on the porch is decorated with paint from a rock painting activity a few summers ago. I have to keep this in mind with every purchase I make for the porch.

These ideal chairs have dark cushions on them or no cushions at all. They are comfortable and pretty, of course!

Here are a few of my favorites right now!

  • Benmore Wicker and Faux Wood Accent Chairs. These are definitely the front runners! I’m thinking with the black rug I’ve chosen, that the natural wood look of these chairs would be a good contrast to all the dark colors.
  • Black Wicker Club Chairs. I love these! The color, the high backs – dreamy! These would definitely hide the dirt of the little people who will be rubbing all over them!
  • Opalhouse Wingback Patio Accent Chairs. If you know anything about me, you know I enjoy decorating on a budget. These chairs are the most budget-friendly of the bunch. There are a few in stock at my Target and I think I’m going to go sit in one and see if I think they are sturdy enough to endure the elements of my porch.
  • Southport 3 Piece Conversation Set. These are really similar to the other black wicker club chairs I mentioned above, but have a lower back and they come with a table! One less item to search for!

The goal for the next few days as far as progress on this project is concerned is to get the porch cleaned and to order chairs.

My husband and I purchased all the supplies we need to get the porch concrete cleaned up and ready to start installing a few of the decor elements. Stay tuned for that riveting content!
