The Budget-Friendly Cozy Master Bedroom refresh is still in the works!
Is anyone other than me tired of talking about this master bedroom? Hopefully, in a couple of weeks we’ll be able to wash our hands of this and move on to the next pressing problem at our house – the guest bedroom!
One of the primary reasons I wanted to share all of this – besides it being a good way to get some content back on this site – I want to remind us all of our need to lower our expectations about what we can accomplish in a week’s time.

This project is happening at the speed of life. Though this was a bad time to begin this process, I knew if I waited until the “right” time, it would never come. I can’t continue to put off tasks until I have time!
Full-time working moms of 4 don’t have loads of spare time on their hands. Can I get a high-five?
So here we are! I’m not even sure how many weeks into this project and this week our major accomplishments were 2 dressers, 2 pillowcases, and a tree!
Here are the past posts in this project if you want to see the progress so far!
Budget-Friendly Master Bedroom Dressers
When searching for dressers for this master bedroom project, I knew I wanted to escape matchy-matchy, but I may have gone too far! At least, I thought that initially. I also may regret not doing as many measurement checks as I probably should’ve. Oh-be-well-be!
I love the look of this dresser with white drawers, but…always a but…the drawers are extremely shallow – both in height and depth.
As a result, I had to move some things out of my dresser and into my closet. I chose to move bathing suits and shorts to the closet. I’m pretty sure I haven’t put a bathing suit on since 2021! No need to waste precious drawer space on those. Likely they don’t even fit, but that’s another story for another day!
This darker walnut dresser is really pretty in person, but it’s much darker than I anticipated. I hear it was a bear to put together, too. I think my husband is going to start splurging for the assembly service when it’s offered!
Once again, the darker walnut dresser provides less space than the previous monstrosity of a dresser that my husband has had for the last 10 years or so. We had to move his sweatshirts and some of his never used or worn accessories to the closet, too.
Now that the black dressers are both out of the room, I’m feeling somewhat better about the various shades of stain on the dressers and nightstands. However, I am thinking about painting the nightstands light grey to take one of the various shades of stain from the picture. That’s definitely a down-the-road project!
A Cozy Master Bedroom Refresh Needs a Tree
So listen – trees are all the thing again, so Instagram says!
I wanted something in this corner to fill the space that wasn’t another piece of furniture. I’ve looked at trees at various stores and just couldn’t ever pull the trigger.
But this tree that I stumbled upon (lots of decor happens in my home via “stumble upon”) on Amazon, really is good. It’s over 7 feet tall, for real. One of my Insta-friends, Lela, has ordered 3 different trees and none of them has been as tall as she was expecting them to be!
This one is sturdy and the tree part has some realistic details that hide the fact that it’s a plastic tree! AND there was a $30 coupon. You know who loves a good coupon? – ME!
The biggest challenge of this tree is going to be keeping Bentley from eating the fake moss that is in the base pot! He’s already gotten to it once, but he was having a really bad day. Bad in the fact that he ate a blue ballpoint pen on the new bedding! I think I mentioned before I was thinking about buying a spare set of bedding and now my fears have come to fruition!
What’s Next for the Budget-Friendly Cozy Master Bedroom Upgrade?
Now that most of the big pieces are in place and most of the walls have their base layer of paint on them, it’s time to start working on accessories.
The goal for this week is to start the trim work which will entail lots of measuring, cutting, painting, and nailing! Likely a few eye rolls and apologies will be necessary, too!
I’m planning on ordering some updated hymn prints to hang over the bed.
Still working on my decisions regarding wall sconces over the bed. Plug-in vs Rechargeable bulbs. And that brings up the issue of the cords under the nightstands! I think I have a solution for that, too.
Curtains still need to be steamed, too.
Come back next week to see how much has been accomplished on this project that never ends!
