Come Sit A Spell

For years I have dreamed of having a space that was strategically set up as a conversation area. In our house hunting adventures,  before we ever were seriously going to buy one, we fell in love with floor plans that offered a hearth room or a keeping room. We loved the idea of having a space where people could sit and talk in a comfortable chair and just relax, but still be able to easily grab a drink or a snack. Food is very important in our lives! Most of the houses with a keeping room in this area were way out of our price range when it really came time to buy a house for real.

When we walked through this particular house, the one we bought, I envisioned our downstairs living room as the room that would function as our hearth room. I immediately started scouring all my typical furniture shopping websites for chairs or small couches. In an attempt to stay on budget and knowing that I didn’t want to buy something I would have to deal with shipping back, I honed in on Target.com!

I found these chairs and liked their price, so I bought 4 of them. I paid much less than the current price, so I’m glad I caught them on a good sale in May. Initially, I thought they might be too big. I bought them and had them delivered before we even had keys to this house! After a little get together we had Sunday night when a friend came and curled up right beside me, I knew they were perfect. If two grown women could fit our butts in one of them comfortably, they are the right size for chit chatting or curling up with a good book or the remote control!

The goal is for the kids to spend as little time in this room as possible, however, it’s not been uncommon for Mickey or Sophia or Elena or some other singing cartoon character to spend time on the screen down here just to save my sanity! There are still walls left empty because I’m not 100% sure what I’m going to put on them. Lots of ideas swirling around my brain for them, but some of those ideas won’t be even attempted until the kids are back in school – in less than a month! What?!

I would definitely say this is my very favorite room in our house for now. I hope it greets our friends and family like a warm hug and invites them to sit down and relax while they’re here.
