Bidding Farewell To The Yellow House

Early in 2020, our family found out we would be relocating due to military orders. A month later the world as we knew it came crashing to a sudden halt! We sold our house before it ever officially hit the market the first week we were all banished to our homes. I still have lots of mixed emotions about how we sold the house and whether or not we could’ve gotten more $$ had we let it hit the MLS. The reality is we had no way of knowing what the end of March would’ve looked like! I also find comfort in the fact that I didn’t have to get the house ready for showings while all 6 of us were occupying it 24/7!

Moving during a pandemic has proven challenging on every front! We spent a lonely summer in a new house and neighborhood that was chosen via the internet, sight unseen. In all honesty, the first night we arrived in town, we drove through the neighborhood and I was filled with instant regret! I even asked my husband how much it would cost to get out of our 2 year lease.

In August, the kids started back to school – in person, 5 days a week – which has proven to be a blessing to our kids and their parents! The kids are doing extremely well. The boys had a good XC season with their new teams and totally different team dynamics. My oldest daughter, who is 11, has found her place on the local club soccer team and is thriving in school. My youngest daughter loves her new school and her new teacher.

The adults still face some challenges. I’m working to get the organizing side of my business off the ground again. I hesitated to go all in because I wasn’t sure what the school situation would look like in the long term. I’ve joined a pilates gym for some social interaction and to have a reason to get dressed and leave my house a couple of days a week!

We will always be grateful for our time in the yellow house and I’m grateful to have these listing pictures to remind me of our time there.
