I love really traditional, cozy design. Warm wood tones. Neutral colors. Soft lines. I also love me some mid-century modern style! If someone handed me the keys to a sprawling Frank Lloyd Wright style ranch home and said this is yours, I’d have the moving truck in my driveway in a split second. Hint! Hint!
Nevertheless, I live in the south where Frank Lloyd Wright architecture is not very common. We’re all about farmhouse and big porches down here.
So today’s Mood Board Monday design is inspired by my love for the mid-century modern flair! And I believe we can achieve the tone of mid-century modern, but still have warmth and softness! I also believe that you can mix styles in your home. Not every room has to have the exact same aesthetic or feel.
I also am a firm believer that our homes are our own. One of my favorite bloggers once said that our homes shouldn’t feel like we just walked into Kirkland’s or whatever our favorite home decor store. Her point was that we should infuse our own style, our own creativity in our spaces, not just copy cat what we see on Pinterest or in our shopping excursions.
I’ve always loved that thought and it makes me second guess many of my own decor choices in my home. I have to ask myself if I really like a certain style or design piece or if I’m using it in my home because Influencer X,Y,Z says it’s a must!
My favorite blogger doesn’t subscribe to using faux plants in her home, but guess what? I’m like the faux plant whisperer. I even have a shelf full of faux plants in my closet just waiting for their chance to shine.
When it comes to how your home is decorated, you do you!
