Cottage Keeping

Cottage Keeping #39

Cottage Keeping is my weekly post where I talk about my week and share my favorite DIYs, home decor, recipes, and other great posts from around the web.

The Cottage Keeper’s Thoughts:

We’ve made it through the first full week of summer! My 3 big kids, as we call the teenagers, were in Holden Beach, NC at our church’s youth camp. Harper took a 2-day sewing camp and said it was the best camp she’s ever been to! I immediately signed her up for another camp with the same teacher for the last week of June.

Thursday night we hosted 40 college kids at the house for their summer small group. I talked to one of their leaders on Sunday and he said there were 60 signed up, but they weren’t sure how many would come. Thursday afternoon the count was 25. By the end of the night, we had 40 college kids hanging out in my living room. I love having the space to host big groups!

If you’re a regular reader of the blog, you know that this week we completed the Master Bedroom redo! Click on over and see the “finished” project! The whole family is enjoying this finished space. On to the next thing…

I’m working on a couple of blog posts that have nothing to do with home decor or organizing, at least not directly. One of those is going to center around Lies the Internet Tells Us! This could be all kinds of things related to fashion, productivity, our homes, our kids, etc. What are some LIES you think the internet tells us? Leave a comment and tell me your thoughts!

Today and tomorrow are going to be planning days for the rest of the summer. I need to update the main calendar in the kitchen. I need to come up with some boredom-buster activities for the kids – mainly the girls. I have a few ideas for some fun projects we can attempt!

What the Cottage Keeper is Loving:

Last weekend our power went out randomly for a few hours. That led me to do some work in the garage since I didn’t need the power to organize and sort in there. Now that’s led me to try to come up with some solutions for organizing the junk in my garage that won’t cost me a ton of money right now. So I’m thinking about using some of my scrap wood from the bedroom to build a couple of these for chairs, yard tools, and miscellaneous sports equipment.

If you want to make me a just-because treat, you are welcome to bring this Chocolate Fudge-Peanut Butter Buckeye Pie! You can never go wrong with Peanut Butter and Chocolate in the same bite!

One of my favorite things to make in my crockpot is this Cafe-Rio Chicken. I feel like I’ve shared this before, but this is a great way to make chicken in bulk that can be used for salads, tacos, nachos, etc.

One of my organizer friends shared this article this week. I haven’t had the time to read all the way through it, but the message hits home. Is the internet making us shopping addicts? I’ve had this thought many times recently and it goes along with a couple of blogs I’ve thought about writing and the questions I asked earlier.

Along the same lines as the article above, this article called How To Love Your Home Even When It’s Not Your Dream , focuses on being content in the home we’re in. In a time when our social media feeds tell us our homes could always be better, we need to be reminded often to focus on the good in where we are and what we have!

Thanks for stopping by! Enjoy your weekend! Don’t forget to relax and do something fun!
