Taking this Budget-Friendly Master Bedroom Refresh on as we have time and energy. It’s going to be amazing eventually!
Well, this is definitely taking longer than I really wanted it to. Slow-rolling this process is an absolute understatement!
I truly underestimated just how incredibly busy we are this time of year. The good thing is Saturday our commitments are reasonably minimal so we may be able to get a little bit of work done. And Sunday we get to go to the 5 pm service at church so we’ll have a good bit of the day to knock a few things out.
This definitely isn’t an HGTV 30-minute – 2-day transformation. We’re living in real-life, with time constraints and full-time jobs!
Let’s talk about the good things, can we?

Master Bedroom Refresh – Curtains
In the first of these posts about this Master Bedroom project, I mentioned how swoon-worthy these curtains were going to be. They are so much better in person!
I’ve joked that these curtains make such a huge difference already. I mean, I’ve got paint samples on 4 different walls of this room and have yet to replace the dressers, but these curtains….
They create warmth and the feeling of cozy that I am going for in this room.
My husband said the other day that this house is starting to feel like home and my response was, “it’s the curtains!” LOL!
Never underestimate the power of some good curtains!
I’m a member of the hang them high and let them touch the floor curtain hanging club. I’m not sure if that’s a hip trend in design these days, but it’s my house and I like it!
No crop pant curtains at this house!
But really, the color, the thickness, and the high-end quality look of these curtains is amazing and let’s not forget these pretty gold curtain rods.
I’m definitely going to be buying more of these exact curtains, in a different color for my next room makeover.
Master Bedroom Refresh – Paint Color
After a little debate and thinking I had the color I wanted, the samples don’t lie! Always paint a sample or 10!
I love this Magnolia Coffee Nook color which is a deep, rich blue. However, after seeing it on the wall close to the headboard, I decided that the headboard would get lost in the blue paint behind it. Then I thought maybe I’ll buy a grey headboard…
I did think that, but I’m not buying another headboard!
Back to my local Ace Hardware store, I went!
Chose another really random sample color and it’s the winner, and appropriately named! Texas Storm. It’s a dark bluish-grey, I’m assuming it’s meant to be the color of a stormy Texas sky.
Did you know I grew up in Texas? My husband would likely describe me as a storm 90% of the time, so this color is definitely perfect!
I have the walls all marked off to start painting about 50 inches from the baseboard. Figure I’ll get the walls painted first and then I can add the trim pieces down the road, but not too far down the road!
Master Bedroom Refresh – Furniture
Bless! If you’ve ever ordered “put it together yourself” furniture online, you likely know what I’m about to say!
We unpacked one of the dressers I ordered and wouldn’t you know it – one of the feet pieces is broken. We considered just trying to glue it together or something, but this is the base of whole dresser and I don’t want to lose the stability of a good base.
The manufacturer won’t just send a part so we are going to be repacking the dresser and returning it to Home Depot. Thankfully, Home Depot gave me a $50 discount on my reorder! More money to spend on a big, comfy chair!
I still need to press Purchase on another dresser, sconces for over the bed, a chair, a lamp, and a little table. And I need to find some solution for the cords under the nightstands.
Furniture is definitely the big adventure in any room refresh! Size, color, shipping, damaged, replacements…Choose your own adventure!
Master Bedroom Refresh – Bedding
What do you think of this bedding? We love it!
It’s a really great weight and the fabric is an almost luxurious feeling. I’ve considered buying a second set as back up since Bentley now thinks this is his bed!
Once the bedding arrived, we had to make a trip to buy king-size pillows! Do you know how hard it is to find king-size pillows at the regular big box stores?
I found these at Big Lots and ended up going back for a second batch!
Originally, I thought I would use Euro Sham pillows as another layer, but they were way too big for the headboard. If I was going to cover the headboard, I might as well paint the walls a deep, dark blue! Right?
I do need to find one pink-ish rectangle throw pillow to go between these two blue pillows.
It’s all trial and error when it comes to the decor at my house!
Master Bedroom Refresh – What’s Next?
The plan for this week is to paint…paint…paint!
And make decisions on furniture.
Eventually, we’ll start putting up some trim work!
Be sure to check back next week to see how much progress has been made on this Master Bedroom Refresh!
